Day in the Life: 2 - Less anxiety please

Alright. Second “Day in the Life” post.

Many people who know me more intimately will know that I am quite an anxious person. After getting to know myself better over the years I have come to recognize that it’s not anxiety per se but it is very much an anxiousness. Relaxing for example makes me very nervous and the idea of going on a vacation to do nothing makes me feel uncomfortable. My ideal vacation would be hiking through the Andean mountains or doing a self guided food tour of London. I am who I am lol.

But some things that have helped me to feel less anxious are: my pets and gardening

When I get home from my morning run, I free my fur babies from their captivity! They are almost always waiting at the door after hearing me open the back gate. And upon opening the door they shoot out to chase all the squirrels and birds that hang out in the yard. It is a very exciting time of the day.

We have this little bird feeder that is strategically placed so that squirrels can’t get to it. But I think the birds and squirrels are in cahoots because the birds throw the majority of the seed on the ground, which the squirrels end up eating much to the delight of my pets as this way there is more action for them.

I like to spend some time each morning “waking up” my garden. Sometimes this is watering, sometimes it’s pruning away dead parts of plants, sometimes it’s aerating the soil, but it is generally a process of checking in with each area of my garden to see what is happening or what is needed.

Gardening is one of the only times of the day that I don’t listen to any music or podcasts or audio books and it is one of the only things that I will never rush.

Favourite plant to grow: nasturtiums! They are very simple to grow, have fun bright flowers that make me happy and are tasty in salads.

These are things that make me a little less anxious.
